I Love Ranches

Had a great trip yesterday and today. The ranch was in Rock Springs Texas (about 3 hours SW of Austin) - which is beautiful country. It’s actually due west of where my buddy Geoffrey’s ranch was in Utopia, TX, where I’ve had some of the best times in my life. Being out there really reminded me of all my trips down there to visit when he was living on the ranch, and how much I miss him.

Yesterday, I sat in a field for a couple hours reading, writing, watching the sunset, and daydreaming - while everyone else was out hunting. It was fantastic! Then fire, beers, and burgers.

Today, I woke up real early (from the alarm clock set by the hunters - that they ignored : ) to watch the sunrise, read my book for a while, then watched a huge storm build up in the “mountains” (they call ‘em mountains out there but they’re only about 2,000 ft). Then it RAINED - HARD - until we left. I had an hour or so to myself in the rain, then we took the super cool 4×4 Golf Cart we had for a spin through the ranch, packed up, and drove back to Austin.

I definitely going back, and would love to figure out how to get some folks together to go in on a lease (which we could get fairly cheap if we’re not hunting, me thinks) so I can go out whenever I want and take whomever I want.

I’ll post some pics tomorrow if any turned out.
